Acrylic and mixed media on canvas. 22’’ by 28’’ April 2020.

There is a harmony between all the elements with special attention paid to the faktura, the reflections, the sands, the smokiness. The use of ash as one of the mediums in the earth elements, is a way to bring some more properties of the thing I am visually creating as the real thing into the canvas. The composition of Gustav Klutsis, design for Spartakiada postcard, 1928 (fig. 2), and his “Everyone Must Vote in the Election of Soviets,” series poster, 1930 (fig. 3), are both very visible in my piece, the arms, legs and eggs creating diagonal intersections, and even using geometric objects like the mirror and the sculpture on the bottom right to emphasize that. With the hand holding a joint at two different points in time, the inconsistency in proportion of objects to each other, the eggs, laid out repeatedly one after the other, the addition of materials like plastic, bottle caps and chains create a sort of puzzle, while the misplacement of objects and their messed up perspective creates collage effects. A reoccurring theme of circles is very present in all the objects, from round mushrooms, and spheres of elements, to the round eggs, and even the mirror.
